With reference to your despatches No.218 of

19th July and No.225 of 24th July on the subject of maisons

tolerées in Hongkong, I have the honour to forward for your information the enclosed copy of a report by the Secretary

for Chinese Affairs together with a comparative table showing the numbers of registered brothels and their inmates

during the period 1914 to 1924.

As far as can be ascertained no complaints

were received from householders regarding registered

brothels during the period under review.
